Hydro Jetting Cost for a Sewer Line
Published sewer line costs (2026)
| Method | Cost per foot | Published job total | Use when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Traditional dig & replace | $50–$250 | $7,500–$30,000 | Severe damage, wrong slope or bellies, or easy open access |
| Trenchless pipe bursting | $150–$190 | $4,000–$20,000 | Pipe collapsed or badly deteriorated; full replacement needed |
| Trenchless pipe lining (CIPP) | $135–$150 | $4,000–$20,000 | Pipe mostly intact with cracks, leaks or moderate roots |
A published trenchless total for a 40–60 foot job is $4,000–$15,000. Sources survey different jobs, so their totals do not always match per-foot math. The calculator uses per-foot rates plus the add-ons you select.
A hydro jet is a hose that blasts water through the sewer line. Crews use it on grease, sludge, and some roots (root removal costs are compared separately). It still only cleans. If the pipe is cracked, sagged, or collapsed, the water won't rebuild it. Compare the jetting bill here against a sewer line replacement cost quote, and stop jetting once the camera shows the pipe itself has failed.
Hydro jetting cost
HomeGuide's December 22, 2025 guide lists hydro jetting twice. One band sits in a method table. The other sits in a sentence about clearing a sewer line. Both are in the table below. This site didn't average them.
| Job | Published range | Where the number comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Hydro jetting (method table) | $250–$800 | HomeGuide method table |
| Hydro jetting to clear a sewer line | $600–$1,400 | HomeGuide, clearing a line |
| Snaking (method table) | $150–$500 | HomeGuide method table |
| Basic sewer snaking | $200–$500 | HomeGuide prose |
| Main-line clog clearing | $200–$600 | Angi; about $380 in the middle |
| Root removal | $100–$600 | Angi |
| Severe main-line clog with video and hydro jetting | about $1,000–$1,600 | Angi outer figures; treat as approximate |
Angi's August 3, 2026 article prices a clogged sink or toilet as a smaller indoor job. The main-line row is the sewer figure. The severe-clog row isn't a survey average. It is the high end Angi names when a camera and a jet are both on the invoice.
Ask whether a camera inspection is in the jetting price. That visit is $100–$500. Without the video, a jet can wash today's clog off a crack you will pay to clean again.
What jetting leaves behind
Water scours the wall. It doesn't close a crack, raise a belly, or round out a collapse. If the same fixtures slow down after the truck leaves, the pipe is the problem and the jetting was a delay.
Check signs of sewer line damage while you wait: more than one slow fixture, a sewage smell, a wet strip of yard over the line. Those are reasons to film the pipe before you book another jet.
Angi lists a cracked-pipe spot repair at $600–$1,050. Lining a mostly intact pipe is $135–$150 per foot. Put those next to the jetting invoice on sewer line repair cost if this is already the second or third cleaning.
Worked example
A suburban house in the South / Southeast pays the higher clearing band, $600–$1,400, and the clog comes back. The camera then shows 40 feet of cracked pipe that is still round.
Lining that stretch is 40 × $135–$150 = $5,400–$6,000 of pipe work. A camera and a permit add $200–$1,500. After the South / Southeast factor (×1.00–×1.00) and rounding, lining is about $5,600–$7,500.
The jetting visit is already spent. It doesn't discount the lining. If the video had shown a collapse, throw out the lining number and get bursting or dig quotes. A snake versus a jet is compared on drain cleaning cost.
Before you book another jet
- Ask whether the quote is the table jet or a full sewer clearing, and get that in writing.
- Refuse a second jet until you have the camera file.
- Don't jet a pipe the camera already shows as collapsed.
- If the defect is one joint, put a spot-repair price next to the jetting price.
- Save the video so the next plumber isn't starting from a blank screen.
Common questions
How much does hydro jetting cost?
HomeGuide's December 2025 method table lists $250–$800. The same guide lists $600–$1,400 for clearing a sewer line. Use the lower band for a straightforward jet and the higher band if the quote is a full clear.
Is hydro jetting the same as snaking?
No. A snake punches a hole through the clog. HomeGuide lists that at $150–$500, or $200–$500 for basic sewer snaking. A jet washes the wall with water. Either method can leave the crack that caught the clog.
When is jetting the wrong job?
Skip it if the camera shows a collapsed pipe, flat Orangeburg, or a belly. A cracked-pipe spot repair is $600–$1,050. Once the pipe itself has failed, the next prices are lining, bursting, or a dig.
Can a severe clog cost more than the jetting table?
Yes. Angi (August 2026) puts a main-line clog at $200–$600, about $380 in the middle. That article also says a severe clog that needs video and hydro jetting can pass $1,000, and some jobs go past $1,600. Treat those outer numbers as approximate.
